Valsamma Eapen AO., MBBS., PhD., FRCPsych., FRANZCP., FAHMS

Valsamma Eapen AO., MBBS., PhD., FRCPsych., FRANZCP., FAHMS: Eapen is Scientia Professor & Chair of Child Psychiatry at University of New South Wales (UNSW) Sydney, Australia. She is Head of the Clinical Academic Unit in Child Psychiatry Services (AUCS) at South-Western Sydney Health District and is a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Senior Research Leadership Fellow. She is known internationally for her clinical and research expertise in autism, Tourette Syndrome and related disorders and is Director of an NHMRC Centre of Research Excellence in child and family health focussed on service access inequity. Eapen is the current President (2024-) and past Treasurer (2018-2024), International Neuropsychiatric Association (INA); Co-chair, Section of Psychiatry in developing countries and Board Member, Oceania co-ordinator, World Psychiatric Association (WPA); and Chair, Faculty of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry (RANZCP). She has published 7 books including 'Where There is No Child Psychiatrist"; 36 book chapters; >500 publications in peer reviewed journals and is currently serving as Editors-In-Chief for JM Rey's IACAPAP e-textbook of child and adolescent mental health, 2nd edition. Eapen leads a number of research grants totalling >AUD 40 million in funding. She was inducted as a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences (AAHMS) in 2025 and was appointed Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for distinguished service to child and adolescent mental health,  neurodevelopmental research, and tertiary education in 2026.
