Dr. Andrés Martin is the Riva Ariella Ritvo Professor at the Yale School of Medicine’s Child Study Center, and past editor-in-chief of the Journal of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. As a clinician-educator in child and adolescent psychiatry, Dr. Martin has focused his research efforts on the intersection between simulation in healthcare, qualitative and mixed methods approaches, addressing stigma and self-stigma in mental health, and developing novel methods of training, reflection, and supervision. As a clinician, Dr. Martin has served for over twenty years as medical director of the Children’s Psychiatric Inpatient Service at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Originally from Mexico City, where he attended medical school, he went on to pursue psychiatric residency and child psychiatric training at Harvard-affiliated hospitals. He subsequently obtained an MPH from the Yale School of Epidemiology and Public Health, and a PhD in medical education from the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. A member of IACAPAP since 2024, Dr. Martin co-led the Donald J. Cohen Program since its inception in Berlin in 2004, until the 2014 congress in Durban, where he was presented with the Presidential Medal for his work in developing the program. Since 2017, he has served as a liaison to, and Associate Editor of, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and Mental Health, academic periodical. The author of over 250 peer-reviewed publications, he is also the co-editor of 12 books, including Thinking About Prescribing: The Psychology of Psychopharmacology with Diverse Youth and Families, and most recently of Lewis’s Child and Adolescent Psychiatry: A Comprehensive Textbook, Sixth Edition (2016).
