Professor Dave Coghill

Since moving to Australia from Scotland in 2016 Professor Dave Coghill has been the Financial Markets Foundation Chair of Developmental Mental Health at the University of Melbourne. He works clinically at the Parkville Youth Mental Health and Wellbeing Service where he is the medical lead for the Neurodevelopmental Disorders Clinical Stream.
His research focuses on increasing understanding of child and adolescent mental health using a range of approaches including longitudinal observational studies and big data approaches, neuropsychopharmacology, clinical trials, pharmacoepidemiology and patient reported outcomes. He is currently leading development of a Lancet Psychiatry Series on ADHD, a global effort with a particular focus on low-and-middle-income countries and those where ADHD is less well accepted and recognized. The Series will help to develop a better understanding of the epidemiology, associated stigma, economic burden and barriers to accessing care for ADHD.
He maintains a strong clinical presence and places a strong emphasis on developing systems that can facilitate the rapid transfer of research evidence into routine clinical practice. his Dundee ADHD Clinical Care Pathway and approach to measurement-based care is recognized as world leading. He led the development of evidence-based guidelines for the Assessment and Management of Anxiety in Children and Adolescents, and Suicide and Non-Suicidal Self-Injury in Children and Adolescents and has contributed to several evidence-based he is the President of the Australasian ADHD Professionals Association and serves as an International editor of the J Am Acad Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the Practitioner Reviews editor of the J Child Psychology & Psychiatry. He has published extensively in peer review international and journals (>300 papers) and has been an author or co-author in over 60 book chapters and editorials. He is editor or organizer of 7 books addressing child and adolescent mental health. He has over 40000 citations and an H index = 94 (google scholar).
