Nicholas Mark Kowalenko, MD

As Henrijke Klasen iCAMH Training Program Coordinator, Nick has been promoting specialist, medical & allied health CAMH Training and workforce development to build capacity in Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMIC). This includes piloting and providing an iCAMH Train the Trainer course with IACAPAP part funding (matched by the Australia and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists) to prioritize the development of iCAMH trainers to actively support them disseminating the training globally. He’s worked as a child & adolescent psychiatrist, an academic faculty leader, mental health policy analyst, professional & organisational leader & advisor to governments & non-government agencies. His academic roles have been at the University of Sydney. As Chair of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) International Projects Committee, he leads a number of Asia/Pacific mental health initiatives with key regional & global partners. He is a Zero to Three International Faculty Member. He was Senior Clinical Advisor to the digital Australian National Workforce Centre for Children’s Mental Health (0-12 years) & is Deputy Chair of the national NGO, Emerging Minds www.emergingminds.com.au.
His publications span his interests in mental health workforce development, global mental health, translational medicine research and practice, information development, early intervention for adolescent depression, digital innovation for youth mental health, perinatal & infant mental health and family focussed preventive interventions.
